Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a pattern of assault and coercive behaviors, attitudes, and expectations, including physical, sexual, verbal and psychological attacks, as well as economic coercion, that adults and adolescents use against their intimate partners. Domestic violence is used by one person to gain and maintain power and control over another.
In 2019, the Haven provided 7,414 bed nights at the Shelter to 133 adults and 81 children who were victims of domestic violence and afraid for their safety.
There were 214 women and children who entered the Emergency Shelter. The Shelter provided over 22,242 meals.
A total of 618 victims were served by The Haven in 2019.
The Haven provided an array of services totaling 19,889 to 478 women, 15 men and 125 children, and answered 1,134 crisis calls. A total of 1,752 victims' lives were impacted by domestic violence throughout Atkinson, Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Colquitt, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes counties.
There were 77 new victims of sexual assault requiring services, 33 of these under the age of 18.
